Nowadays there are work-addicted people who entertain themselves with the idea of future success and happiness which can be reached only by hard work. Are they right? Do we have to work our fingers to the bone to succeed in life?
On the one hand, hard work gives a number of great opportunities. First of all, work dedication is a promising stepping-stone to a proper appointment. Doing his best every single minute one is likely to get promoted and build a good career in the future. Besides, constant hard work can help to win colleagues’ respect. This is especially important for those who have a lack of self-confidence and are afraid to lose face. Finally, hard work implies earning much money. One can become independent and not to live off somebody.
However, in my opinion, everything is not as good as it may seem. To begin with, hard work has a detrimental effect on people’s mental and physical health. They can’t but feel downtrodden, caught off balance and fail to get away with this. Moreover, throwing themselves enthusiastically into a working process, people do not spend much time with their families. Thus work becomes a bone of contention and families split up beyond the hope of reunion. Even money cannot help because a man has to sacrifice a lot anyway, so the game is not worth the candle.
To sum up, Charlie McCarthy once said : «Hard work never killed one, but why? Take a chance». So to be happy and successful we should not forget about some other things except for work not to miss something really important.
