There is no doubt that the problem of overpopulation is one of the most pressing issues in the modern world. However, some people believe that there are several advantages to having an ever-growing worldwide population.

In my opinion, overpopulation is a serious global-economic problem. Firstly, growth of the population which goes literally with avalanche acceleration raises a number of global and regional problems such as complication of economic development of different countries, the increase of crime and terrorism, the rapid spread of infectious diseases. Secondly, we can see the growth of the global consumption of natural resources, reduction in providing people with drinking water. Furthermore, the growing mountains of wastes cause a serious harm to groundwater as well as soil and air.

On the contrary, there are people who think that population explosion rejuvenates the world's population and increases labor resources of different countries. The increase of population stimulates the development of new territories, the emergence of cultures, more efficient development of science and technology to provide the population with all necessary goods and services.

I disagree with this point of view. Nowadays we can observe a decrease in biodiversity in certain areas, widespread deforestation, depletion of the ozone layer, the unnecessary using of pesticides and other chemicals reduce the fertility of the soil and lead to land degradation and desertification.

To summarize, it should be observed that modern society will find no solution to the demographical problem unless it takes a serious look at its lifestyles.
